Disrupt Media is an artistic space dedicated to providing young people of color the opportunity and resources necessary to engage in storytelling as a practice of healing but also, to bring attention to critical needs among artists of color in society.
Disrupt was founded by Ebony Sojourner in 2020 fueled by her passion in serving marginalized communities and understanding the power art possesses to heal and wanting to create an outlet and space for healing to our Black and brown communities.
We offer a social emotional and culturally relevant arts based curriculum that focuses on filmmaking education and experiences for young people.
We uplift and empower the next generation of artists, thinkers, and change-makers among youth of color in New York City.
We firmly believe that by nurturing their creative potential, we are not only enriching their lives but also contributing to the creation of a brighter and more inclusive future for our communities.
Film is the medium we use for sharing stories, and as a strategy for analyzing and processing our lived experiences. Through the creation of films, we promote individual and collective wellbeing, and share our stories and their lessons with the broader
community.
We attend to the social-emotional aspects of our being in order to support healing and growth and ensure that all of our members feel a sense of belonging.
Because the perspectives and experiences of people of color are commonly silenced and disregarded in the United States, we train and support artists of color to generate and share
narratives that have been powerful for them.
